X-C runners claim third, fifth at Thetford Invitational       
With her second place finish overall, Champlain Valley’s Sophia Gorman led the girls’ cross country team to a third place win at the Thetford Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 4. Carly Neeld finished in 12th place, Meara Heininger 28th, Jennifer Ireland 29th, and Emma Putre 31st. On the boys side Tyler Marshall placed in 10th place and Calvin McClellan finished in 19th to lead the boys’ team to a fifth place finish.
Boys soccer team bounces back after loss   
With only 28 seconds left in regulation, South Burlington’s Abukar Hassan finished a give and go to beat Champlain Valley Union 1-0 in high school boys soccer action Wednesday night in South Burlington. Oscar Kelly made six saves in the losing effort. Two days later Champlain Valley bounced back to beat North Country 3-0. Zach Akey, Chris Reiss, and Jacob Russo each scored a goal for the 7-2-1 Redhawks.
Girls soccer remains perfect
Megan Gannon and Naomi Burhans tallied twice apiece as Champlain Valley beat visiting North Country 5-0 on Thursday in girls soccer. Maila Carroll also scored and Lia Gagliuso had two assists for the undefeated Redhawks.
Field hockey team stung by Hornets   
Essex’s Kathleen Young scored twice in the second half to lead the Hornets to a 2-0 win over Champlain Valley on Saturday morning, Oct. 4. Tashia Pashby-Rockwood made eight saves in the losing effort.
