Do you feel like you’ve tasted it all? These local restaurants will rev up your taste buds with their fall specials. Date night, anyone?
Barkeaters’ Chef Barbara Cote works magic with her Pork Osso Buco, a slow braised pork shank nestled on a bed of mascarpone risotto with spinach, caramelized apples and onions, topped with a caramel apple bourbon demi-glace, and garnished with local micro-greens. Of course, you’ve got to try bartender Laurie’s Ginger Jerry with this one. This sweet and spicy martini mixes Sailor Jerry, Citizen Cider Dirty Mayor, Shelburne Orchards apple cider, and shaved ginger, and is garnished with a cinnamon sugar rim and apple slice. Not feeling the ginger? Try the Cider Jerry, which subs in the Unified Press cider for the Dirty Mayor.
Chef Leu’s in Shelburne will have this special available all fall, even if you don’t see it on the menu. The Black Pearl Boy roll combines spicy salmon and tobiko topped with eel and avocado. And, if you buy the special, you get a second roll for half the price. Make sure to try the Mai Tai, made with rum and fresh juices. This fruity classic is the perfect after-sushi drink.
The Windjammer’s Maple Manhattan adds a Vermont twist to the classic drink. Their recipe uses Maker’s Mark bourbon, Vermont made Sapling Liqueur, and a dash of sweet vermouth. Pair with their featured steak, a 14 ounce gorgonzola crusted Angus Beef New York Strip steak finished with a port demi-glace, for a perfectly heartwarming meal.
The pizza perfectionists at Marco’s in Shelburne have redone their entire menu for the fall. Get a taste of the Tomato Basil Garlic Flatbread for a quick lunch, or pair it with a house salad and toasty, light, garlic ciabatta with dipping oil for a delectable dinner.
After treating yourself to a Vermont cheese plate, lemon sole, or any one of Chef John Fath’s tantalizing creations at Toscano’s in Richmond, top off your night with the Spiced Apple and Blackberry Upside Down Cake. It comes topped with a bourbon apple reduction, candied walnuts, and a scoop of vanilla Island Home Made ice cream.
