On Friday, Dec. 5, 2014, Marilyn “Junie” (Peet) Bird, 81, passed away following a long illness. She was born on Aug. 19, 1933, in St. George, and was the daughter of Frederick and Jennie (Wellinger) Peet Sr. She graduated from Hinesburg High School in 1951, then went on to graduate from Johnson State College in 1955 and received her degree in early education. She married the love of her life, Lewis W. Bird, on June 21, 1957, and he predeceased her in 1987. Junie taught at S.W. Thayer School in Burlington, and then taught at Hinesburg Elementary School. She was an avid reader and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her three children; Peter Bird, Jack Bird and his wife, Sherri, and Kimberly Dattilio and her husband, Dana. They all reside in Hinesburg. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and her three sisters, Helen Phillips of Huntington, Joyce Bissonette and husband, Lyle, of Hinesburg, and Lucille Garvey and husband, Dale, of Charlotte. She also has several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Joyce Bissonette and Audrey Horton for the wonderful care of Junie. We would also like to thank the Vermont Respite House for taking great care of her in her final days. Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, at the United Church of Hinesburg.
