SCHIP thanks communities for 10th year celebration

As the new year begins, SCHIP wants to thank all who helped make our 10th anniversary year a celebration to remember. We started off the year with a great community dinner fundraiser that realized over $1,200 at the Hinesburgh Public House. Many people attended and enjoyed great food, companionship, and learned more about SCHIP and its mission. Look for another community dinner soon.

Because SCHIP celebrated its 10th year this year, we held three separate raffles and had such a great response from our local artisans and business people who provided wonderful prizes. We were so pleased to be able to raise money and award great gifts to SCHIP followers.

We continue to be able to award grant monies three times a year to non-profits serving the communities of Shelburne, Charlotte, and Hinesburg. In addition to those grants SCHIP regularly meets the requested needs of the town’s three food shelves, provides vouchers for clothing and other goods to those in need, and meets the emergency requests that may come in from our various faith communities. The next deadline for grants is Jan. 31. If you or anyone you know serves our communities through a non-profit, please let them know of this deadline. See page 7 for details.

The faith communities include All Souls Interfaith Gathering of Shelburne, Charlotte Congregational Church, Hinesburg United Church, Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Charlotte, Shelburne United Methodist, St. Catherine of Siena in Shelburne, St Jude’s of Charlotte, Trinity Episcopal of Shelburne, and the Vermont Zen Center of Shelburne. Each church holds two places on the board.

This year sales are up and expenses are down, and it appears that SCHIP will be able to add to the $500,000 plus grants that have been awarded over the past 10 years. Please come shop, donate, volunteer, and become a part of a great venture that continues to enrich the lives of our neighbors in need.
