Shirley S. Whitney – South Burlington
Shirley S. Whitney, 88, of South Burlington died peacefully on Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, in the Vermont Respite House. She was born in Sharon, Mass., on March 30, 1926, the daughter of the late Arthur and Doris O’Brien Scott. She graduated from Sharon High School. She was married to Ralph A. Whitney of Sharon, Mass., on April 30, 1944. Ralph predeceased her in 1977. Shirley lived in Kodiak, Alaska, Slatersville, R.I., and Burlington, Charlotte, Shelburne, and Essex. Her last residence was in Allenwood, in South Burlington, for nine years. She had a love for crafts, gardening, knitting, reading, music, and sports. She loved her days of Bingo and will be deeply missed by her dear friends and all of the professional staff at Allenwood in South Burlington. Among her survivors is a daughter and son-in-law, Janice Whitney and husband Edward Tumielewicz of Hinesburg. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Shirley’s memory may be made to the Vermont Respite House, 99 Allenbrook Lane, Williston, VT 05495.
