J. Michael Baker III – Rutland
Joseph Michael Baker III, 46, of Rutland died unexpectedly on March 25, 2015, in Rutland Regional Medical Center. He was born in Rutland, July 1, 1968, son of Martha Gardner Baker and Joseph Michael Baker Jr. Michael was a 1986 graduate of Mount Saint Joseph Acadaemy and a 1991 graduate of the University of Vermonact with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Michael was Vice President of Baker Distributing Corporation in North Clarendon and Colchester which he ran with his cousin and business partner, David G. Baker Jr. Baker Distributing was founded in 1965 by his father, Joseph Michael Baker Jr., and uncle, David G. Baker, and this year will celebrate 50 years in business. Michael was an accomplished athlete and played varsity basketball and football at Mount Saint Joseph and he was also on the golf team. He was extremely honored to be selected to participate on the 1986 Vermont Shrine Football Team. Michael enjoyed golf and boating, and entertaining friends at his home on Lake Bomoseen. He was a devoted and loving father who spent as much time as possible with his two wonderful sons, of whom he was extremely proud. He was also a generous and behind-the-scenes supporter of the arts and of many very special charities. His love of his family knew no bounds and we are extremely proud of the man he became. His love for, loyalty to, and enjoyment of his wide circle of friends was immeasurable. Among his survivors are two sons, Joseph Michael Baker IV and Duncan Howard Baker, both of Charlotte. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph Michael Baker Jr. in 2003. Burial will be held at a later date in the spring. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Smile Train, P.O.
