“In my new position as Chief Tree Hugger, I am excited to kick-off our ‘T-for-Trees’ campaign,” announced Business Director Victoria Ward.

Over the next few months Annette’s Preschool plans to make some big changes to their outside spaces. The purpose is to create an outdoor classroom that is healthier, more stimulating, and more fun for the children under their care. A group of staff have been working on a plan to redesign the outdoor spaces. “Over the severe winter we lost a couple of trees that provided shade for our play area,” said Ward who gained a Masters in Sustainable Land Use Planning before joining Annette’s Preschool. “A key element of the current plan is to plant additional native plants and trees. We are planning to start the process of creating more natural shade this spring.”

The preschool has ambitious plans for the playground and are inviting its families to participate over the next several months in some “T” themed events. Initial ideas include building a raised bed garden, a natural bean tepee, and bringing in some natural rocks for climbing. “We are glad to receive any donations from local landscapers or homeowners for any cut logs and large rocks.” said Ward.

The first “T” event was held Saturday, May 9–by being a host site for the Hinesburg Town Tag Sale. The proceeds will be split between “T-for-Trees” and the Hinesburg Food Shelf.

They will continue with many more “T” initiatives including a T-shirt sale, a Tea-Party under the Tent and a T-epee building event
