The Hinesburg Lions Farmers Market will celebrate 12 years when it opens for the season Thursday, June 11. The Market will run every Thursday afternoon from 3 to 6:30pm through Sept. 3 at the United Church of Hinesburg on Main Street.
The annual summer event brings visitors and neighbors together to enjoy the fruits and vegetables local farmers offer the community. There is time to renew friendships, stroll among the decorated booths, and enjoy the tradition of an old-fashioned market and town gathering place.
“The traffic in Hinesburg may appear insurmountable, but to be truthful, drivers are usually on their best behavior. Taking a left out of the market is easy to maneuver,” offered a frequent farmers market customer.
Once again the market will offer fresh seasonal produce, prepared foods to eat on the premises, and take-home treats, baked goods, homemade bread, and fruit pastries. New Lions Farmers Market organizer Derek Nelson welcomes back: Lalumiere Farm with its beautiful produce and lovely perennials and annuals; Hinesburg’s own baking vendor Freeda Powers; and Euro Market with its prepared Bosnian foods including moussaka, spanakopita, Baklava, and a variety of salads.
“We’re always on the lookout for other vendors to participate,” mentioned Nelson. Prospective Farmers Market vendors are asked to email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Members of the Hinesburg Lions Club, all volunteers, manage the market with such behind-the-scenes tasks as sign set up, booth assignments, parking lot marking, entertainment, and fee collection. Market membership/space fees constitute a Lions Club fundraiser which in turn supports the local Food Shelf, funds an annual scholarship given to a graduating Hinesburg senior and gives out Christmas gifts for families. Funds also go to aid Hinesburg persons with vision or hearing test costs or for glasses and hearing aids purchases when needed.
There is ample parking. For more information email Derek Nelson at email@example.com.
