Gladys (Dickie) Whitaker died peacefully at the Converse Home in Burlington on Nov. 19, 2016 at the age of 97. Dickie was born on June 16, 1919 in Kearney, N.J. After finishing nursing school for her R.N., she married Warren (Mike) Whitaker and they moved to Sharon, Mass. where Mike was raised and where they raised their four sons: Tod, Jonathan, Robinson and Nathaniel. She continued nursing at Norwood Hospital in Norwood, Mass. The family enjoyed camping and fishing in Maine, N.H., and Cape Cod. Mike and Dickie retired to Rome, Maine in 1972. After Mike died in 1991, she moved to the Terraces in Shelburne in 2000 and resided there until Dec. 2015.
Dickie is survived by her children Tod and his wife Yvonne of Hinesburg, Jonathan and his wife Jeanne of Shoreham, Robinson and his wife Elizabeth of Cataumet, Mass., and Nathaniel and his wife Deborah of West Newbury, Mass. She has 14 grandchildren and 22 greatgrandchildren. She is survived by her sister Beatrice Thacher, who is 100.
She was preceded in death by her brother George Dickinson.
There will be a family memorial in the spring.
