Hinesburg’s Tom Hart (left) and his trophy, awarded for setting a new competitive weightlifting world record in the strict curl, with Paul Bossi (right), president of 100% Raw Powerlifting. Hart, age 75, set his second world weightlifting record this summer competing in the 75-79 year age group and 198 lb. weight class. The former Champlain Valley Union High School teacher and coach of 35 years lifted a record-setting 123 lbs. In 2014, Hart also set a strict curl world record in the 70-74-year age group, which he still holds. Hart holds eight Vermont weightlifting records and two national records, and is currently ranked top in the world for all strict curlers over age 60 in the 198 lb. weight class.
