Gov. Phil Scott will help officially unveil the Vermont Shires Connector, a new connection between New York City and Bennington and Manchester at a ceremony Monday in Manchester.
The new service is a project of the Vermont Agency of Transportation, with its partners Premier Coach and Amtrak. The twice-daily shuttle launched in September connects the Manchester and Bennington areas – called “the shires” – to New York City via the Albany-Rensselaer Amtrak station in New York.
The vehicles used for the shuttle will be new with amenities such as outlets and wifi, said Premier Coach Vice President and General Manager Randall Charlebois.
The service will allow train travelers to move from New York City to Vermont, between train and shuttle, with a single ticket purchase.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring a number of local, state, and company representatives, will be held at the Hampton Inn in Manchester starting at 12:30 p.m. on Monday.
