CCS receives COTS Youth Hero Award

The Committee on Temporary Shelter chose Charlotte Central School as the recipient of the 2017 Youth Hero Award after the school donated students’ Be the Change money to the organization.

Part of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports program, which is led by Behavior Systems Coordinator Cassandra Townshend, CCS students are recognized with pennies when, wrote Co-Principal Stephanie Sumner, “they demonstrate behaviors aligned with school-wide expectations of ‘Taking Care of Ourselves, Taking Care of Others, and Taking Care of Our School.’”

When students receive a penny, it goes into a classroom bank, and each classroom can earn rewards and celebrations throughout the school year as certain goals are reached. At the end of the school year, CCS literally paid it forward and donated their accumulated pennies, totaling $185, to COTS.
