Middlebury Community Players hold auditions next week for “Picasso at the Lapin Agile”

Auditions will be held next week at Town Hall Theater in Middlebury for the February production of “Picasso at the Lapin Agile” by Steve Martin.

Both smart and silly, “Picasso at the Lapin Agile” (the Nimble Rabbit) asks serious questions about art, science, and genius while it cracks goofy jokes about history, romance, and how to bake a pie in the shape of the letter e. Set in 1904 Paris, this is the first full-length play by comedian and actor Steve Martin. Its 1995 production in New York City won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Play.

Auditions will be held Monday in the main theater and Wednesday downstairs, both at 6:30 p.m.

Auditions will consist of cold readings of brief scenes from the script. There are roles for 11 adult actors – six males and five females. Those interested in auditioning but unable to attend can schedule an alternate time. Contact director Eileen Corcoran with questions at beancorcoran@yahoo.com.

Perusal scripts are available at the Town Hall Theater Box Office, 382-9222. Rehearsals will begin the week of November 12. Performance Dates: February 8-11, at Town Hall Theater.
