The Sunday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 26, will mark the 20th year that the Hinesburg Land Trust hosts its Annual Louise Roomet Memorial Turkey Lane Turkey Trot.
Started in 1998 by Colin McNaull’s, the first race on a warm, sunny day drew 18 walkers and 16 runners. Colin donated the $340 of donations to the Hinesburg Land Trust. When he retired in 2009, John Kiedaisch became Race Director. By this year, the 4.25 mile course has been walked or run by more than 1,300 people. Many participate every year and donations have added up to $16,759. On only one of those Sundays, when roads were covered with ice, was the event canceled because of weather.
This year’s race starts at the intersection of Turkey Lane and Lewis Creek Road with registration at 11:45 a.m. Walkers begin at 12:45 p.m. and runners at 1 p.m.
