This weekend, the hills come alive at Hinesburg Community School as the middle school production of “The Sound of Music” takes center stage.
The school production follows an abridged script from the “Getting to Know Rodgers and Hammerstein” series available for young people and it includes a few shifts from the Hollywood movie version.
Advisors to the production said that the musical is retold to each generation with lessons of family, bravery, being true to oneself, and the healing power of music, all against the backdrop of the Nazi invasion of Austria at the start of World War II.
More than 40 students in grades 6-8 have been working hard for many weeks under the direction of music teacher Danielle Sertz and music director Niel Maurer on the production.
The show is suitable for all ages. Show times are: 7 p.m. Friday; 2:30 and 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are available at the school office during school hours and at the door: $6 for students, $8 for adult. More information: cvsdvt.org/Domain/9.
