South Burlington Police are looking for help identifying an ax-wielding suspect in a recent chain of break-ins at businesses along Shelburne Road.

According to Det. Sean Pope, police were called to check out a burglar alarm at Pauline’s Café at 1834 Shelburne Road at 4:32 a.m. on Nov. 10. Police discovered broken windows where someone had entered the building.

While investigating this burglary, South Burlington Police were also dispatched to another burglar alarm at Girlington Garage, located at 2 Harbor View Road, approximately a quarter mile from the café.  At the garage, officers discovered someone had broken into this business. Det. Pope said an entryway door was smashed.

It then became apparent that someone was practically going door-to-door just ahead of police.

While at Girlington Garage, officers heard an alarm from Champs Car Care, which shares a driveway with the garage. And while searching the area, officers discovered forced entry had also been made at the nearby Bond Auto Parts’ store, Pope said.

The security camera image shows the suspect carrying an ax. Police believe that the incidents were carried out by a lone individual, Pope said.

The businesses reported nothing missing. “We think the suspect went in and looked for stuff but moved on quickly,” Pope said.
Anyone with information that might help identify this individual may contact Det. Pope at 846-4200.
