For the third year, Vermont Teddy Bear Company has created a special Valentine gift to raise money for Make-A-Wish Vermont: the One-of-a-Kind Masquerade Bear. Custom-made and hand-stitched, the bear is being auctioned online over a 10-day period leading up to Valentine’s Day.
“We are so proud of this bear and passionate about her purpose,” said Bear Brand Manager Abigail Temeles.
The bear wears a Victorian silk ball gown, 24K gold-plated Czech beads and Swarovski crystals. The company estimates its value at $2,500. Temeles called it “more a work of art and dedication than just a teddy bear.”
Jamie Hathaway, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish Vermont, explained that proceeds from this special bear will help fund the wishes of kids with critical illnesses, like becoming an honorary state trooper, or visiting with Mickey and Minnie at Disneyland.
Vermont Teddy Bear Chief Executive Bill Shouldice said this project is an easy one to do. “It’s about putting a smile on the face of someone who could use a lift,” he said.
Bids on the bear had surpassed $3,000 as of Tuesday morning. The auction closes Friday. More details and the auction link are online at: vermontteddybear.com/one-of-a-kind-masquerade-bear.
