Police stop Essex driver for speeding on Route 7 in Charlotte

Vermont State Police stopped an Essex man on Rt. 7 in Charlotte last week after police said he was driving 93 mph in an area with a 55 mph speed limit.

Roberto A. Stephens, 57, of Essex, was charged with negligent operation, according to a report by Trooper Stephen DiGregorio. The stop happened just after 11 p.m. on March 21.

Stephens was processed at the Williston State Police barracks and was released with a citation to appear in Chittenden Superior Court on May 8, according to the police statement.
