Charlotte firefighters contain brush fire at shooting range

Charlotte Volunteer Fire and Rescue responded to a call about a brush fire at Laberge’s Shooting Range on Lime Kiln Road in Charlotte on Sunday.

Three responders and three trucks came to the scene after reports of a fire in the woods.

Assistant Fire Chief Rob Mullin said the fire covered a 50-square-foot area and that it was contained and extinguished quickly.

“I think it was from a ricochet,” Mullin said. “There was no reason for anyone to be up in the woods.”

Mullin was careful to note, however, that he was not certain how the fire started. The people who reported the fire hadn’t been there very long, but claimed they had seen a truck leaving when they arrived. They noticed the fire soon afterward, Mullin said.

No one was injured and damage was minimal, Mullin said, explaining that the burned area was pine needles, weeds and brush.
