To the Editor:
Shelburne Boy Scout Troop 602 spent last Saturday serving the community. Half the troop went to the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum Half Marathon to staff water tables, which raised $200 for the Vietnam Veterans of America.
The other half (along with members of Cub Scout Pack 607) worked with the Shelburne Tree Warden Dave Hall to move and spread mulch to protect the roots of the shade trees on the Shelburne Parade.
After the race, the troop reunited to help finalize the planting of new trees along Falls Road. They also worked with members of the Shelburne Veterans Monument Committee to weed and clean the monument in preparation for the Memorial Day ceremony. After lunch, the troop walked to Shelburne Bay Park, where they spent the afternoon pulling invasive garlic mustard.
In total, Troop 602 provided a total of 114 hours of volunteer work on Saturday.
If you have a son who is interested in joining Troop 602, please call me, Scoutmaster Jim Brangan, at 985-1007. If you have a daughter interested in joining scouts in 2019, please attend an informational meeting on Thursday, May 31, at 6:30 p.m. in Meeting Room 1 of the Shelburne Town Offices. More details about that meeting will be published soon.
