A Hinesburg man was charged with driving under the influence after Vermont State Police said they stopped him on Route 105 in Swanton late Sunday night.
Trooper Ben Patnode from the St. Albans barracks said he was monitoring traffic just before midnight Sunday night when he observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on the two-lane highway. He said he clocked the vehicle going 74 mph in a 50 mph zone.
The driver was James Pieper-Lococo, 24 of Hinesburg, police said. Patnode suspected the driver was impaired and took him back to the barracks where he charged the driver with driving under the influence, first offense. Patnode said he gave Pieper-Lococo a warning about speeding.
Pieper-Lococo was released with a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court in St. Albans on June 4, police said.
