Legion baseball drops four, rallies for one win

A loss on Sunday in the heat capped off a 1-4 week for the S.D. Ireland Legion baseball team.

S.D. Ireland traveled to Schenectady, N.Y. to take on the Montreal Titans, posting a 6-3 loss.

Kyle Rivers went five innings and allowed four runs on seven hits in the loss. Jacob Murphy, Lars Jensen and Tyler Skaflestad each drove in a run.

S.D. Ireland also fell to the Saratoga Stampede (10-0), Hayner Barnstomers (7-0) and Colchester Cannons (2-0).

The Williston-based team did earn a win over the Schenectady Indians on Friday afternoon, getting a run in the sixth inning and another in the seventh to pull away for a 2-1 victory.

Jacob Murphy got the win, pitching six strong innings and giving up one run on three hits. Calvin Wuthrich pitched a scoreless inning of relief to get the save.

Schenectady took the lead in the first inning and held it until the sixth inning, when Murphy singled to score a run and tie the game.

S.D. Ireland then took the lead in the top of the seventh on a wild pitch as Baker Angstman rounded home for the winning run.
