The pigs at Bread and Butter Farm in Shelburne moved to their summer digs last week. Farmer Corie Pierce said moving the pigs gives her the opportunity to re-seed their main pasture, but that she doesn’t like trucking the animals, so they walk. Three sows and 25 of their babies were lured to their new home, a third of a mile away in the woods, with snacks. Pierce said the pigs are trained with a food call, and that she enticed the pigs with treats. The farm’s summer campers and students from the University of Vermont Farm Training Program helped out with the walk.
