To the Editor:

A plan to build a hut for beach attendants at Charlotte Beach is coming to fruition this summer after a year of planning and organizing by the Town of Charlotte Recreation Committee.

A year ago, fellow members of the Charlotte Shelburne Hinesburg Rotary Club – Trafton Crandall, Bill Root and I – met with the Recreation Committee and offered to help make the project happen. Currently the beach attendant has only a chair to sit on, no shelter from the sun or rain, and no storage area.

Last Saturday, Recreation Committee members Bill Fraser-Harris and Rich Ahrens gathered with Rotary Club members Bill Root, John Hammer, Bill Deming, Fritz Horton and Terry Kennaugh to begin assembly of the beach hut, with swift placement of boards and pounding of nails.

Rich was the extremely helpful “Bob Vila” of the group, pre-cutting everything and making the whole project very efficient and exact. According to Bill Fraser-Harris, the siding will be added to the hut on this weekend.

Working partnerships such as this one between the Recreation Committee and the Rotary Club create successful projects and friendly fun.
