VA hosts music festival, cookout for vets Aug. 18

The White River Junction Veterans Administration Medical Center and the Vet Center will host a “Welcome Home” music festival and cookout to honor local soldiers, combat veterans and their families Saturday, Aug. 11, at the White River Junction VA Medical Center on Veterans Drive.

This event is open for the public’s enjoyment of a meal and live music in honor of and by Vermont troops.

The opening ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m., band performances start at 10 a.m. and the cookout follows at 11 a.m. The closing ceremony will begin around 3:30 p.m.

Local bands include The Ramblers, Chris Kleeman, Brothers Band Together, Ted Mortimer Trio, and Bow Thayer. The coordination of the bands was made possible by Richard Meijer of Stars Stripes and Strings, a nonprofit dedicated to providing Vet Centers with guitars.

Local sponsors include Friends of Veterans, Bentleys, River Valley Club, American Legion Post 22 and its Auxiliary, VA Employee Association, and VFW Post 9552.
