Florence increases Red Cross need for blood and platelet donations

The Red Cross is urging blood donors of all types to donate platelets and blood in the wake of Hurricane Florence. Because of the severe weather, close to 200 blood drives were cancelled in the southeastern United States. The Red Cross estimates that about 5,200 donations were missed because of these cancellations.

Appointments can be made by using the Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

Financial donations are also needed.
