Howard Center has a new number for people to get help

To ensure that community members have access to the mental health, substance use, and developmental services they need, the Howard Center has launched a single phone number for people seeking information or services: 802-488-6000.

The new phone number was set up to make it easier for those who are seeking support for the first time. When someone calls 802-488-6000, access specialists will provide support, conduct a brief screening, schedule an intake assessment, and offer information about other community resources, if necessary.

Callers can expect to receive live support on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on weekends from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Individuals or community partners who work with a Howard Center service or provider may still call direct program numbers. In addition, the First Call for Chittenden County crisis number remains the same, 802-488-7777.

Howard Center serves people in six counties each year with mental health, substance use, and developmental services. Its mobile crisis service serves children, adults and families in crisis. A funded agency of the United Way of Northwest Vermont, Howard Center is online at
