Local artists and fly fishers Tim Neiley of Charlotte and Lynda McIntyre of Shelburne have created two unique hand-painted Orvis fishing vests to be auctioned in the upcoming national Casting for Recovery/Bidding for Good online auction running today through Nov. 18.

Both Neiley and McIntyre are accomplished painters, passionate fishers, and have had personal and familial experiences with breast cancer.

Founded in 1996 in Manchester, Vt., by a breast-reconstruction surgeon and a professional fly-fisher, Casting for Recovery has provided outdoor fly-fishing retreats for more than 450 women with breast cancer at no cost to the participants. McIntyre participated in the 2016 retreat.

The retreats offer opportunities for women to find inspiration in nature and experience healing connections with other women.

Other auction items include a two-night stay at Stowe’s Commodores Inn with gift certificates to Hen of the Wood, Doc Ponds and Laughing Moon Chocolates; a guided half-day fishing trip for two in Southern Vermont and a one-night stay for two at the historic Windsor Mansion Inn with a tour and lunch at the nearby Harpoon Brewery.

The auction is online at: biddingforgood.com/auction/auctionhome.action?auctionId=338249403.
