Hinesburg Community School kindergarten teacher Miranda Johnson has won the Sanford Teacher Award for Vermont. The national award is given to one K-12 teacher in each state.
Johnson grew up in Williston, attended Champlain Valley Union High School and received her undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of New Hampshire. Now in her 14th year teaching at the Hinesburg school, Johnson started as a paraeducator before getting her own classroom. “I’m really lucky to work in this district where we are trying to be on the cutting edge of best practices in learning,” she said. Johnson lives in Huntington with her husband and two children.
