Special Olympics Vermont holds holiday games

Special Olympics Vermont hosted its Holiday Games at St. Michael’s College Dec. 9. Dozens of athletes from around Vermont participated in swimming, floorball and bowling competitions.

Local athletes who took part were Shelburne swimmers Jesse Campbell, Olivia Lamothe and Terry Taylor; Toni Duba and Scott Krueger from Hinesburg in singles bowling; Carrie Fox of Charlotte and Larry Young of Shelburne in team bowling.

Campbell won second and third place in two races and second in a relay; Lamothe took first in 25m backstroke; Taylor landed four first place medals including two for relays.

Duba and Krueger took fifth and sixth places respectively in their bowling competitions. Fox was on a bowling team that won second place in its division; Young’s team took fourth place.

The games rely on many volunteers including members of various law enforcement and public safety departments around the region. Shelburne Police Officers Matt Tatro and Sabrina Boutin helped out at the bowling competition held at Champlain Lanes.
