ST. ALBANS – The Champlain Valley boys hockey pulled off their best win of the season on Tuesday night.
The Redhawks scored the only goal of the game to beat No. 2 BFA-St. Albans 1-0 and knock them out of the Division I quarterfinals in overtime.
With the win, No. 7 Champlain Valley moves on to face the winner of No. 3 Stowe/No. 6 Rice in the semifinals.
Jake Schaefer found the back of the net in overtime to lift the Redhawks to a 1-0 win over the Bobwhites.
Nick Lyman earned an assist on the gamewinner.
HINESBURG – The first upset of the Division I boys basketball postseason is in and No. 6 Champlain Valley was the victim.
The Redhawks fell to No. 11 South Burlington, 54-46, on Tuesday night in the D-I playdowns at Hinesburg.
CVU had a 24-21 lead and built that to a 39-31 deficit at the end of the third quarter. But the Wolves opened the fourth quarter on a 10-0 run and outscored CVU 23-7 in the final frame to earn the win.
Cole Otley paced the Redhawk offense, scoring 15 points, while Bennett Cheer and Ethan Harvey each added nine points. Mason Otley added eight points.
South Burlington’s Evan Parker led all scorers with 20 points, while Tyler Gammon chipped in with 18 points.
Champlain Valley finishes the season at 13-8.
WATERBURY – The Champlain Valley girls hockey team’s season came to end on Tuesday night.
The No. 4 Redhawks fell to No. 5 Harwood 4-2 in the Division II quarterfinals.
With the loss, CVU finishes the season with a 8-13 record.
